Downtown Kalamazoo/Kal Haven OPEN!
This section of the trail is complete and was opened in 2008. As the trail winds northwest from downtown Kalamazoo you pass through residential and light industrial areas, providing recreational opportunities in nearby neighborhoods and access to the central business district. Heading west you can take the trail to 10th Street and the head of the Kal-Haven Trail, which then leads to Lake Michigan.

Downtown Kalamazoo
This section of the trail is not yet complete. A vibrant central city will be more accessible by way of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. You can bike, roll or walk to downtown’s festival site, restaurants, shops, the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, and other attractions.

Downtown Kalamazoo Riverfront OPEN!
A portion of this segment from Mayors Riverfront Park to Rose Park Veterans Memorial is open; another portion from Gull Road to Mosel Avenue opened in November. Portions of this trail segment wind through areas of wooded wetlands. You can wander along the Red Arrow Golf Course and end at Rose Park Veterans Memorial. Continue along the Jack Coombs Trail to Verburg Park and north to Mosel Avenue and Parchment.

Portage Creek
This segment is not under construction yet. Extending south the trail will traverse near the Portage Creek and Blanche Hull Preserve. It will connect to the Portage Creek Bicentennial Park, thus linking you to the historical, cultural and parkland attractions of Kalamazoo and Portage, including Upjohn Park and Celery Flats.

Parchment/Cooper/Kalamazoo (under construction)
Construction on this section began in April 2010 with an expected opening in summer/fall 2010. The trail stretches from Mosel Avenue north to D Avenue along former railroad lines, wooded floodplains and forested uplands. You can enter Markin Glen County Park, which features swimming and camping, and the Kalamazoo Nature Center with walking trails and interpretive exhibits.

Comstock
Construction on this segment is expected to start in 2010. Connecting Galesburg on the east to Mayors Riverfront Park on the west, the trail will lead you to River Oaks County Park with access to the park’s lake. You can follow the trail along King Highway through Comstock, visiting local businesses and recreational facilities.

Galesburg
This segment is not under construction yet. This piece of the trail will link the Galesburg trail and road networks to provide right-of-way for a system of bike routes and lanes leading into existing Galesburg parks and downtown attractions.

Augusta/Fort Custer/Battle Creek
This segment is not under construction yet. This greenway section of the trail will connect Battle Creek’s Linear Park on the east to communities in Kalamazoo County. Bike or walk along the Fort Custer Recreation Area and enjoy the rural countryside between these two southwest Michigan communities.
